Walking with Children into Prayer, Scripture and Sacred History
Description
The morning session of this workshop will explore the development of prayer in the life of children ages 3-12: The characteristics of the child at different stages of development, the needs of the child at each stage and how we may meet them, and how the scripture offers children a language for prayer.
In the afternoon, we will examine the unfolding of sacred history through scripture for the same age group. The focus will be: Our role as catechists in communicating sacred history and Old Testament and Gospel narratives as the foundation of our sacred story.
Presented by Catherine Maresca. Catherine is the founder and director of the Center for Children and Theology in Washington, D.C. (cctheo.org), where she researches and writes about the spiritual life of children. Catherine has been a catechist in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for 32 years at Christian Family Montessori School and has been training catechists since 1985. Maresca is the author of “Double Close: The Young Child's Knowledge of God."
